Rummage Sale

On Saturday, May 7th, the St. Ann's Guild put on a rummage sale.

It was quite a wonderful collection of stuff!

But it all needed to be sorted . .

Clothes, housewares, linens, children's toys and costumes,

electronics, hardware, furniture, exercise equipment, Christmas

decorations . . .

. . . we had it all!

So many people helped, first with moving the rummage from

the church basement, then with sorting and displaying the goods,

and pricing them.

On the day of the sale, we also needed cashiers --

here are Esther and Tami at the check-out desk.

All the funds raised from the rummage sale will be used for St. Ann's Guild projects.

The Cistern

The roof of an old cistern collapsed on the north side of the church building sometime between the evening of Monday, April 25th and the morning of Tuesday, April 26th. No one knew it was there, until it appeared on that Tuesday after Easter.

During the annual Easter Egg Hunt (only a few days before) children had been running over that exact spot!

The first thing to do was to surround it with a fence, to prevent the curious from falling in -- no one knew how stable -- or unstable -- the edges of the hole might have been.

It is likely that the recent heavy rains caused the cistern roof to weaken. (Interestingly enough, the nearby basement of the church was completely dry.)

The depth was measured to be 9 feet.

There was a pipe entering the cistern from the north, probably from a farm house that once stood where the Parish House currently stands.

Research done for the 100th anniversary celebration had revealed that no buildings had stood on the property at the corner of 11th and Harrison for 50 years prior to the church's construction. Therefore, the cistern probably dated from the 1850s.

There may have been some interesting artifacts on the bottom of the cistern, but we'll never know for sure, because for safety's sake the cistern was soon filled. It took about 30 tons of stone to do the job.

After the stone has settled, it will be covered again with top soil, and grass re-planted over the spot.

On May 16, 2010, the Eastern Deanery of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield held a held a Service of Confirmation at Trinity Church. Graduation - Darwin Walters

At coffee hour on May 16th, Trinity parish honored Darwin Walters, who had graduated from Mount Vernon High School the day before. Fr. Tucker presented Darwin with a combination Book of Common Prayer/1982 Hymnal, engraved with Darwin's name, with wishes for great happiness and success in the days and years to come!

The Malottke's 50th wedding anniversary

On May 9th, Fr. Bill and Carla Malottke's 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated with a reception in the Parish Hall. Trinity was Fr. Bill's first parish as a priest in this diocese.

New Liturgical Hangings and Vestments

On October 11, 2009, new liturgical hangings and vestments were dedicated and blessed. These were given in memory of Bill and Leala Schelosky by their family.

The Altar Guild fits the new frontal on the altar.

The new vestments are set up on the altar before the blessing and dedication.
